History: From Halo's Notes:
- Shortly before Space War One, space exploration hit a boom and the first new worlds were colonized (i.e. Earth's Moon and Mars). Ever the visionaries, VI began its own probed explorations and stumbled upon a fascinating discovery – a stellar system a relative stone’s throw from the cradle of humanity which promised riches never thought possible by conventional standards. They dubbed their discovery the “Vensari System”.

- The leaders of Vensari Industries came to the same conclusion as the Macross Consortium. . . the future of mankind lays not in the cradle of Earth, but in colonizing other worlds. The Macross consortium got all the press with the launch of SDF-2 in 2012, but Vensari Industries had colonization plans of their own. Later the same year they launched their own *privately owned and operated* colonization missions. Whereas the SDF-2 went off in search of Protoculture homeworlds in the galactic center, the Vensari mission utilized a set of starcharts obtained from their new Zentraedi allies to find new habitable planets. The charts lead them to what became the Vensari System (it's the right of every explorer to name their discoveries, no matter how egocentric it may be).

- Why was the Vensari System so valuable? Because it was home to a stellar anomaly commonly referred to as “The Cauldron”. The Cauldron is a large gas giant (filled with a highly rare gas used to power Reaction weaponry & drives) and surrounded on two axis by extremely mineral rich asteroid belts criss-crossing at the planet’s equator. The first and third planets of the system are Earth-type and a colony was quickly formed there to make use of the Cauldron.

- In short order Vensari Industries established four colonies: Vensari Prime (first planet of the system), Touran (first planet's habitable moon), Lucero (third planet of the system), and Dyce (a habitable moon orbiting the Cauldron). Given that Vensari Industries funded the entire operation *privately* they had every legal right to declare the same "squatter's rights" given to all colonies and claim the system for themselves.

- With such a rich new home, Vensari Industries completely broke away from Earth and the New Macross Government (which was still in its fragile infancy) to populate their new colonies. Thousands of other colonists also left Earth for the rewards that awaited in the Vensari System. The colonists were given jobs and provided land to live and work (depending on profession), but territory was never sold. Instead, Vensari Industries collected a tax for use of *their* land and other colonial services.

Note: this is essentially a Macross version of the “Company Town” concept common in late 19th / early 20th century America.

- The relationship between Vensari and the UNSpacy has always been tenuous at best. The Vensari system was independently colonized by a corporation during a period in which there was no proper human government, and therefore view themselves as independent from the Spacy. However, the overwhelming majority of those in the employ of VI are Spacy citizens (having been born on Spacy worlds and moving there for employment). This political dynamic has resulted in a unique relationship. The Cauldron is the “property” of VI, however they have granted the UNSpacy preferential rights to mining and manufacturing there (plus every corporation needs someone to sell their product to).

- The Spacy has established a shipyard orbiting the Cauldron, and uses the mineral wealth mined there for shipbuilding and resupply efforts (the vast majority of which are provided by VI at a hefty profit).

- Lately there have been rumblings over political discomfort in the system – MNN broadcasts have been issuing claims of UN Spacy representatives attempting to leverage its military might to gain greater control over the Cauldron. Meanwhile, opposing stories accuse VI of substandard working conditions and halting/delaying/rescheduling production of Spacy vessels as a means of imposing their control over the operation.
