Site Layout

The structure of the pages on this Wiki shall follow the following conventions:

  • Campaigns will be listed by their full campaign name only. They shall be annoted as part of the "Campaigns" category. Example: Tales from Deep Space.
  • Squadrons will be listed by their designation and full name. They shall be annoted as part of the "Units" category. Example: SVA-1485 Sentinels.
  • The constituent parts of the Joining process shall be listed only by a relevant name, such as Step by Step Joining, and listed as part of the "Joining" category.
    • Of more direct note: the category listings should be removed from the front of each page name. such as SVA-1485 Sentinels. While it does serve to note what type of page it is, I feel that it is superfluous in our case.
  • Statistics resources shall be listed by whatever most-relevant title can be applied to them. Example: OCC SDC Chart. Statistics Resources shall be listed as part of the "Statistics" category.

The Site Hierarchy is depicted in the image below.

Currently working on changing this site.

Currently, the main idea for this Wiki is to allow for a solid area to provide complex information, such as Statistcs, with login editing required, and changes easily made if a version needs to be reverted.

Xuric might have more to add later. --Lanji

And, I do.
Added the MRC Staff page. Minor tweaks to come.
Will be working on the Squad Info page as well.
All info is derived from the Chambers post "Unit and Personnel Update"--Xuric 20:59, 3 Nov 2004 (MST)

Major construction underway everyone. See MasumiX's version of the Campaign_Tales_from_Deep_Space page for examples of how this should look. GM's you can quickly edit in your pages information, including links to your individual websites if you want too. --lanji 13:18, 4 Nov 2004 (MST)

Just wanted to make a quick "Way to go, MasumiX!" What you've done looks marvelous. --Xuric 13:36, 4 Nov 2004 (MST)

So, Xuric, MasumiX, what order should we start working on the rest of the pages? --lanji 13:47, 4 Nov 2004 (MST)

I would suggest first getting the framework laid, to provide blanks for the other staff to fill in (such as has been done with the "Campaigns" page. Things like the campaign names, squad names, and other key areas need to be defined. We should also provide a collated place for links to all the most dynamic data (such as squad openings). We need to think now on whether or not to use the other FAQ system. As it could easily be replaced by this thing.
--Xuric 16:42, 4 Nov 2004 (MST)

Lets not write off the FAQ system currently up yet, but let us go ahead and start setting up the catagories like you suggested Xuric. I'm still reading how to do it, but I think I have it most of the way. --lanji 19:32, 4 Nov 2004 (MST)

Woo! This is all really confusing, but I've got a little Mini-Profile up for me now and I've done a basic Hollywood Knights page as well. --Crimson_Reaver 15:28, 5 Nov 2004 (GMT)

Confusing, eh? Well, you're doing a bang-up job so far, keep it up. :)--Xuric 08:51, 5 Nov 2004 (MST)

Gonna make things a little easer... placing new entries at the top.
MRC Staff... please look at the Squads Portal and enter the data you have for any of the squads you GM.
Also, you might update your information on the MRC Staff Page.
--Xuric 22:00, 5 Nov 2004 (MST)

A note on the load-times for this site: There's a lot of data that has to be processed by the system before it's spit out for viewing. THAT is where most of the load-time comes from. So far, the only images are the Wiki logo, and some on special pages. Best of luck to y'all with dialup. --Xuric 09:10, 5 Nov 2004 (MST)

Run with it Xuric. Personally I like Squadrons spelt out rather then just Squads, but I'll live with what we have. ALSO, I think we can soon remove Portal pages, and just link to the Categoies page that is automatically setup, reducing our load.

--lanji 15:25, 8 Nov 2004 (MST)

Xuric, have you ran accross a way to import perhaps a Tree functionality in JavaScript into the Wiki? the [nowiki] [/nowiki] tags don't seem to do it for me, but you've found a lot more features then I have recently... I'm thinking a folding tree/folding hiarchy function would be nice for the main page once we get things in place.... (just thinking ahead).

BTW, I'm starting a ARCTech documentation sub-category from the EITD sub-category...

--lanji 00:00, 18 Nov 2004 (MST)

I haven't found one built-in to the Wiki system, but, with some tweaking, I'm sure I can whip up one we can make work. --Xuric 10:14, 18 Nov 2004 (MST)

Actually I already have the code we need, its just getting it into the page easily that I was wondering about. I'm sure we can play havic with the source code to make it work though...  ;) --lanji 17:05, 18 Nov 2004 (MST)

I think that what we need is a way to allow more HTML codes to be used in posts. As-is, you cannot even use an <img> tag. I have a feeling that that's why your snippit doesn't work.--Xuric 18:39, 18 Nov 2004 (MST)

Its time to start transitioning to using this full time. The template on my end is getting closer and closer to going live, and after an e-mail I received today, its obvious that there is a serious need for this part of the site for the MRC.

As such, I'm promotting this project to "Gold" in one week, and I'm working like mad to get the remaining required minumum documentation about the MRC into it. I ask that everyone work on getting either the Joining Information, or more Stats information in as quickly as their Real Life allows (no need to kill yourself to get it in).

Also, with the success of this tool, I'm going to follow User:Xuric's suggestion, and close the FAQ documentation center when this project goes Gold. This tool is just so much easier to use.

Previous notes and Site Layout are now located in the Talk:Main_Page.

What kind of timeframe are we looking at: do we have a target date? I`ve got winter holliday coming up, some 20 days till I`m 100% free time 8well that is when I`m not taking care of the wife and familly) So I can apply more progress then. A temporary target date would be nice (for motivational purposese :D--MasumiX 18:54, 11 Dec 2004 (MST))

I'm with MasumiX - a 2 week winter break (not of my choosing) sans a trip to South Korea is coming up in the immediate future for me. Going live with this MediaWiki in a week's time *may* be ok, but there will be massive changes (at least in the Stats areas) during the last week of Dec. and first week of Jan. (on my end.) --Apeman007 19:23, 11 Dec 2004 (MST)
