Shinnakasu Industry/OTEC FBF-1000A External Fighter Fold Booster

BACKGROUND

Developed in conjunction with Special Forces and the qualifications for Project Super Nova in mind. Initial prototypes produced in the late 2030s. Mass production initiated sometime after the winner of Project Super Nova was announced and production on the VF-19 began.

Few VFs have the capabilities of mounting the fold booster externally as the VF-17, Y/VF-19, YF-21 and VF-22 do.

RPG STATS

Vehicle Type: FBF-1000A "external fighter fold booster"
Class: External Fold Booster
Manufacturer: Shinnakasu Industry/OTEC
Crew: None. Needs to be mounted on a compatible VF.

MDC BY LOCATION:

Location MDC
Main Body º
Mounting Pylons (4)¹
150
25 each

NOTES:

º one successful critical hit or 25% of the main body being destroyed renders the fold drive inoperable.
¹ destruction of 2 or more mounting pylons reduces the charging rate by 1/2. Destroying 3 pylons prevents charging and it is recommended to eject the drive prior to atmospheric entry if 2 or more mounting pylons are destroyed.

SPEEDS:

None in real space.

RANGE:

Prototype: Not certified for performing a one-way trip of 20 light years.
Production model: ???

STATISTICAL DATA:

HEIGHT, WIDTH, LENGTH, and WEIGHT:

Comparible to a VF's cockpit.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT FOR THE Shinnakasu Industry/OTEC FBF-1000A external fighter fold booster:

  • NAVIGATION COMPUTER: The Shinnakasu Industry/OTEC FBF-1000A external fighter fold booster is equipped with an advanced computer that stores and analyzes steller data during its use. Usually has a star map and all of the known fold routes that the UNG uses/has authorized, at the time of it's last data update.
  • HOMING SIGNAL: The booster is equipped with a homing device that enables recovery teams to locate it, once activated by a remote coded transmission. The range of the signal is 400 miles (640 km). Most UN Spacy ships and variable fighters can locate and track a homing signal, and the onboard computers will automatically notify their pilots if such a signal is detected.
  • SELF-DESTRUCT: To prevent capture of an advance variable fighter system by the enemy, the pilot can activate the fold booster’s self-destruct system, which will cause the booster to explode after a delay of up to 60 minutes (time is set by the pilot). The explosive damage is contained within a 20 foot (6 m) area and inflicts 1D6x10 M.D. to everything within the radius of the explosion. All internal systems are obliterated. The escape pod will be automatically ejected prior to the explosion unless the pilot overrides the ejection sequence. This feature can be operated by remote. The booster will automatically activate an emergency alarm radio transmission if it has been set to do so by a pilot who has temporarily abandoned the booster in a safe location.
