Archeologist

(Min IQ12. 3 years training. Starting age 21)

With so many planets with Protoculture Ruins, plus the ruins of Earth, archeologists have a wealth of places to search for clues to the past. Archeology is an oft-overlooked branch of the social sciences, but it has time and time again shown us many things that we have forgotten from millennia before. Archeologists receive training at universities, and are usually given field assignments during their 3-year doctorate degree programme.

Astronomer/Astrophysicist

(Min IQ12. 4 years training. Starting age 22)

The stars and heavens are wonderful to look at. However despite everything the SDF-1 Macross and Zentraedi have taught us, mankind knows very little about the universe. Astronomers and astrophysicists strive to understand the macro and micro workings of the universe, from distant stars to pulsars, to what lies between the galaxies. Men such as Stephen Hawking, Albert Einstein and Edwin Hubble still inspire astronomers and astrophysicists to look harder and further than their predecessors.

Chef

(Min IQ8. 4+ years training. Start age 20)

A chef doesn't just learn how to cook at a catering college, they learn how to present food to make it as much as feast for the eyes as it is the taste buds. Chef's also learn how to balance accounts and ensure that they have everything that they need. A chef doesn't just cook food, they must also manage the financial side of a kitchen (sometimes a restaurant) as well.

Civil Engineer

(Min IQ11. 3 years training. Start age 21)

Civil engineers create the world around us. Although an architect may have designed a building, it is the responsibility of the civil engineer to confirm that the building can support itself and make final decisions on the materials being used in construction. During construction, a civil engineer adheres to the blueprint and both construction and building safety standards.

Computer Engineer

(Min IQ10. 2 years training. Start age 18)

Computer engineers are responsible for the hardware of a computer; fixing, upgrading and designing new components as necessary. They have ‘some’ software skills, such as programming, however their emphasis is on designing and repairing hardware. For example, they can strip down a mainframe, computer, repair its problems and upgrade its capabilities in the process, and then put it back together again.

Computer Programmer

(Min IQ12. 3 years training. Start age 18-21)

The majority of accomplished computer programmers have attended a university and learned to program in several computer languages. Although it is possible to teach yourself from books, it takes a long time and one will miss important parts of the education process that a university or college can provide. Computer Programmers can make a lot of money from programming, especially if they get involved with Artificial Intelligence programming – as it is the current focus of military and weapons civilian contractors. Computer programmers have a reputation of being able to hack into the back doors of software.

Designer (Ground Vehicles)

(Min IQ14, 3 years training. Start age 21)

Every year, dozens of new cars are created and sold to the public across known space. From hardy all-terrain vehicles to sports cars, both potentially capable of short space flight, these vehicles need to be designed and tested by professionals. Universities run automobile and motorcycle design courses for aspiring ground vehicle designers, with many designers getting extra training in aerospace and aeronautical engineering to allow them to design the space capable vehicles on Colonization Fleets and orbital stations. Other areas covered by this designer are farming vehicles, trucks, buses, and any other ground vehicle.

Designer (Water Vehicles)

(Min IQ14, 3 years training. Start age 21)

A largely over-looked branch of design is the design of water vehicles, both civilian and military. Many people forget that food must be harvested from the sea, and new and better designs of ships and boats must be created for military and civilian (pleasure, rescue and food production) purposes. The UN Navy also requires vessels to complete its job, and as ships begin to date, it is this designers role to create new types of vessels. Not all of these designers work for large companies, many run their own businesses to design and build small pleasure craft or skidoo's for civilian recreational use. Some even design and build surfboards and windsurfing materials. Civilian watercraft is a growth industry as mankind is slowly switching from an emergency reactionary quest for survival, to a more relaxed, leisure focused lifestyle reaping the rewards of the past efforts of mankind.

Film/TV Producer/Director

(Min IQ10, 3 years training. Start age 21)

TV/Film producers and directors undergo at least three years of university or college education to learn the intricacies of producing and directing films and television programs. Although they don't learn the technical side the same way that a cameraman or lighting technician would, they do learn about the overall frame maximization of film or TV programme production as well as storytelling. The producer/director has to know how it all fits together, how the various production elements fit together and how to gather the resources to produce a moving picture. Sometimes a directors value is based on his or her ability to bring famous people into a production. Knowledge of the entertainment industry and the ability to schmooze people into joining a production is just as valuable as the technical knowledge behind a production.

Historian/Social Scientist

(Min IQ12, 3 years training. Start age 21)

The Historian is an individual who has and continues to study and research history, and a specific area of history or culture (perhaps more areas.) and has made it their life’s work. The historian will know everything that there is to know publicly on their chosen subject(s), and will also know many more less-well documented details (GM's decision as to what.) The historian strives to learn all that they can on their subjects and document them for future generations to learn about them also. Historians with a more social science oriented career make recommendations to government and social agencies.

Pilot (Shuttle/Spacecraft)

(Min IQ9, 3 years training. Start age 21)

Highly trained personnel are needed to pilot space shuttles and spacecraft, as space is a very different environment from an atmosphere. Without adequate training a pilot could easily crash their vehicle, or miscalculate a fold and appear thousands of light-years from where they want to be, or even too close to a dangerous spatial anomaly. Due care and attention is needed to be a shuttle/spacecraft pilot, be they a cargo shuttle pilot transporting cargo from a planets surface to orbiting space docks, or a space freighter pilot navigating millions of kilometres of real-space or thousands of light-years via hyperspace.

Priest/ess//Monk (Choose religion)

(Min IQ8, 3 years training. Start age 21)

Priests/ess and Monks can be of many religions, and the near decimation of Earth in 2011 has served to further bolster people’s beliefs in religions. Some religions have, however, had to change to accept the existence of aliens but mostly they are the same known as they were before the end of the 20th century. Most priests/ess and monks are trained in theology and their religion in particular as well as being able to speak to crowds of people about it as well. Psychic/Fortune Teller

(Min IQ8, 6 months training. Start age ANY)

Psychics and Fortunetellers are seen by many as a fun diversion, but for others, especially those of certain cultures psychics, fortunetellers, shaman, witch doctors, witches and brujah's skills are an essential part of their cultural history and beliefs. People will sometimes run their entire lives and careers by what the local fortuneteller tells them. Others will seek out a shaman, witch or Brujah to do a cleansing spell on them to keep negative energies (AKA the Evil Eye) away. Most psychics and fortunetellers have no real psychic powers but have a true belief that what they are doing is real. Others are charlatans and con men looking to fleece people for everything they can get. A very small minority of people have some form of gift, be it ESP, clairvoyance, or something else in some small way. Most true psychics work for free and ask for nothing in return. However locals will normally thank them by doing services for them, (weeding the garden, painting their house,) or giving them food, (something special like Grandma's special lasagna, as opposed to cans of food.)

NOTE: True psychics makeup some 1% of the 'psychic' population. Roll a D100 or ask your GM very nicely (powers will be minor and probably spiritia related. This is Macross after all.)

Spacecraft Captain

(Min IQ9, 3 years training. Start age 21)

The captain of a space going vessel must know every part of the ship, and how to fix it (or at least jury rig it.) This is especially important if it is a small ship with only a handful of crew. Spacecraft captains must undergo training in how to pilot the space craft, and generally pick up the engineering skills as they go. Writer/Author (TV/film/Novels)

(Min IQ10, 3 years training. Start age 21)

Great novels, theatre, TV programs, films and even advertisements and radio jingles don't write themselves. They require imaginative and articulate people to write them, and to place them down on paper or print in a manner that allows anyone reading to visualize what the author was thinking of when they wrote it. Some writers create masterpieces that are remembered by everyone (William Shakespeare,) whereas others will only be known to people in their particular field (advertising.)
