History: Jason Ambrose was born to Victoria Ambrose, a waitress and part time club singer in one of the seedier parts of Macross City. He never knew his father, only some shadowy figure most often referred to as “that bastard” (no relation to Michael Mifune). Growing up in tiny apartment above an all-night club did not provide for a storybook childhood, but he got by. Instead of a sandbox, he had a barroom floor. Instead of Lincoln Logs, he built forts of ashtrays. But if there was one benefit of being raised in such an environment, it was certainly the music. Jason can’t remember a time before he could sing The Righteous Brothers’ You’re My Soul and Inspiration. Completely immersed in a musical environment from an extremely young age, music and performing came second nature to the boy; a quality his mother strongly encouraged. They may not have money, but they had each other and their voices.

If there was a downside to such an upbringing, it was certainly the sociological damage. If there were two things he learned very quickly, they were Alcohol makes people happy, and people exist to be used and quickly forgotten. By the time Jason entered his teens, his view of society, and especially women, was severely and irreconcilably skewed. His observations in the club seemed to sum up a man’s life as a cycle of using, abusing, and discarding women. There was nothing wrong with this, right? That’s just the way life is.

Following a competent if unspectacular High School education, Jason entered the UN Spacy Aerospace Academy. This was the perfect job for the unbound youth. They were going to teach him to fly, he’d get to see all the sights of the Galaxy, and, let’s face it, chicks dig the uniform. His future was bright as a supernova.

Enter Helen – young, beautiful, and a walking songbird. Nineteen year old Jason never stood a chance. Their romance was quick to develop, and as too many people tend to do, they rushed towards marriage. Six months later, their daughter Tabitha was born (you do the math). Another six months after that they were divorced and never spoke again.

Even during their brief marriage Jason continued his way too frequent boozing and carousing. It was second nature to him, and frankly he never fully understood such behavior was inappropriate. One fateful night, while thoroughly intoxicated and unusually belligerent, he dragged himself home. In a fit of rage over being confronted about his “problems”, he beat his wife while their infant daughter watched from her cradle. As is the case in most episodes of domestic violence, charges were never filed and it was quickly forgotten. Well, forgotten by the authorities, but not by Jason. Never.

He imposed exile upon himself and pulled a few strings to have himself stationed on the farthest reaches of patrolled space. He struggled with the man he had become and fought desperately against his inner demons. Helen had forbid him from ever contacting their daughter, a decision he reluctantly accepted.

Following nine years of outward patrol experience, Jason was reassigned to the Golden Dragons in hopes of being closer to his daughter. Young Tabitha was quickly sheltered and (following a suspicious bout of food poisoning) Jason was reassigned to the Gun Hawks aboard the UNS Kurosawa. He now serves as their commanding officer.

Note: Despite the obvious example of being a one-time wife beater, Jason is a thoroughly good and noble person. Unfortunately, his battle with alcoholism results in a Jekyll / Hyde conflict.
