Robotech

Postby Sabre » Fri Mar 01, 2019 9:59 am

I've been toying with the idea of returning to my RP roots which would be Robotech. While I haven't settled on a timeframe yet, I'm curious if there is any player interest in me starting a Robotech campaign.

Ah, Robotech. I remember back when it was new. My mother introduced it to me. She was big in to anime back then. Robotech, Voltron, Starblazers, Speed Racer. She has since given it up, having moved on to the Marvel bandwagon (although she has seen the M. Frontier films).

Robotech. I keep waiting for them to do the sequel to 'Shadow Chronicles'. I always considered the novels the Canon version of the franchise, though. They were sufficiently different from the spliced anime to constitute their own thing.

If I was going to be choosing an Era, I would go Invid or Sentinels. You can do a lot with those settings (not to mention that we kind of have the Macross era covered here already). You could do the initial Invid Invasion, when Earth launched their counterattack from Moon Base ALuCE. They had thousands of troops and some capital ships in the beginning due to Southern Cross and Wolfe's forces.

The real question is how long can ya'll sustain this many games before burn-out sets in?

Are you interested in playing or just commenting?

As for burn out, I am nowhere near that stage. I am running 1 game full time and two side threads. I am playing in 2 games. I am good.

I would not mind joining in. But I was commenting, too. So... Both?

I combat burnout by abusing my players.

It's not very nice but it's effective.

I'd be happy to host you. Three players is a good minimum so I have enough to do it.

Stang, do you have a favourite time period?

Inferno stated he liked Invid or Sentinels?

I always did like the Cyclones. Especially the sexy black one that belonged to the reporter Ms. Graham.

My favourite cyclone was Lancer's the VR-041 (Sabre) Cyclone. I'll ensure at least one of my NPC's uses that one.

Also as a point of ancient history, my internet MRC nickname of Sabre, comes from this.

Sue Graham's cyclone was the light-recon version.

Yeah, but it had that shiny black chrome finish. Also, not weapon systems.

My favorite was the Shadow Dancer. The light recon with the sexy black paint scheme, dual sabers, and a cloaking device. I loved playing as that in the PS2 game.

That's the one. The armors looked way better and the tanks were the shit.

Hovertanks were used throughout the later eras to, at least lore-wise.

I have nothing against Southern Cross, by the way. If that is where ya'll want to play, that is fine by me.

I would prefer the Invid Invasion, you get the best of all three worlds. 1st Gen mecha rusting in old hangers and installations, hovertanks and variable helicopters and logans left over from the Southern Cross, and survivors of the Mars and Jupiter Divisions with Alphas and Betas and Cyclones all in play.

It was my understanding that, due to the hostilities between the REF and the Southern Cross, no Southern Cross mecha were supplied to the REF and vice versa.

The REF (since renamed the UEEF) has access to the ones that were built prior to the SDF3's launch. Specifically, they have the Logan and Hovertank (Colonel Wolfe's team specialized in those). I am not sure if they have any Southern Cross Destroids.

This is what the last campaign looked like. You can see the variety of military organizations that were around and the equipment was appropriate for EBSIS or ASC or the REF.

If Mustang chose a Hovertanker from the ASC at age 22 when they Invid invaded, then he woukd be about age 32 when the REF arrived and he broke his VHT out of mothballs. Not impossible. Remember Southern Cross mecha do not use protoculture.

And Major Carpenter. He had brought REF/UEEF mecha and a capital ship near the mid-point of Southern Cross. The capital ship and many of the fighters were destroyed, but a decent amount made it through the battle. So there are some of those active during the Second War.

Carpenter, himself, was still alive last we heard. He was the one who got Moon Base ALuCE up and running again amid the Invid War. He was also the one who got Ms. Graham down to Earth ahead of Jupiter Division's arrival.

I'm encouraged and a little be excited to see the characters that are being submitted. I have not yet approved any of the characters as my plan was to wait until everyone who has expressed interest has submitted a character. When that happens, I'll review all of the character submissions again to see if adjustmets are needed.

I was doing a refresher. Just finished rewatching 'Shadow Chronicles' a few minutes ago.

Man, there are a lot of typos on the images in that movie. "Expeditionaly Force" for example.

Their computer's software is listed as 'Browser: IE Version 5'. When they were scanning Janice's memory banks, the lyrics to 'Old MacDonald' and the rules to a drinking game were some of the thoughts that were running through her head.
