A little help

Postby MasumiX » Wed Jun 21, 2006 12:49 pm

Lt Col Andy Reddson, REF wrote:I know “somewhere” the is a pic of a female, named Tessa. In a uniform (?) very much like those used for RDF’ers. I have a partial pic, a composite of three others that I spliced together (it’s, uh, technical). I “think” I found it here, but for the God-damned life of me I can not really find it anywhere.
This is the closest I could find:

http://www.animenfo.com/animecharacter,382,kchoja,testarossa_ther.html well, she is the captain of the ship that holds all of the mecha (sort of). She's supposedly a whispered, I don't remember as it has been a while since I watched them. And sorry, I watched the fan subs (I know, bad me, but I prefer them. ) So I don't know if much was changed in the English version.

She is funny! Love her. So cute.

Awesome series. I love the idea of giant mecha that react just like soldiers in the field. Giant assault rifles, giant sniper rifles, giant survival knives.

She's not only the captain of the ship, she also designed the whole thing, from top to bottum. And Blue Phoenix is correct, she is a whispered. It's a pretty cool show, ColdFire introduced me to it, and i couldn't leave the TV. :o

Captain Teletha "Tessa" Testarossa

Postby Cid Highwind CO VI » Fri Jun 23, 2006 5:23 am

This is her profile from the show's main page

The Captain and designer of the pride of Mithril’s forces, the assault submarine Tuatha de Danaan, Teletha “Tessa” Testarossa can be considered the other heroine of our story aside from Kaname Chidori. Tessa is an attractive, small-framed girl of 16 with platinum hair and large grey eyes. She was born on the American East Coast, to a family of strong European ancestry, and she traveled the world extensively as a child. Tessa also has an elder brother whom she idolized for his incredible intelligence, though this also leads to a feeling of inferiority in comparison to her brother that fuels her desire to overcome any challenge that she faces.
Like Kaname and her elder brother, Tessa is a Whispered and showed prodigious talent even as a child. Her intellect and unrivalled knowledge helped her rise through the ranks of Mithril’s officer corps to take command of the de Danaan, despite her lack of combat experience. To compensate for this, Mithril provided her with two highly experienced officers, Andrey Kalinin and Richard Mardukas, to oversee and advise her on all military operations involving the de Danaan.

Although not very athletic, the adorable Captain is very popular with the crew of the de Danaan and her presence serves as a real morale booster. Though rumor has it that she may have a crush on a certain Sergeant...

Now what it DOES NOT state that while she seems scatterbrained she becomes a tactical genus when the situation gets dangerous

She is one of many engaging charicters of this highly addictive series

Oh did anyone that watched it notice that the show takes place during present day? or actually if you want to get technical, 3-4 years into our past? (I believe it takes place in 2001 or 2002)

The great thing about Full Metal Panic series is that these AS (Armoured Slaves) behave and acts as a one-man controlled tank. They are clumsy in urban enviroment (Sagara's ARX-7 tempts to be extremly agile but that's Sagara's fault :D ) and are more designed for more open combat. Older AS's such as the RK-92 "Savage" (The frog-like ones) is lesser agile then Mithril's state-of-the-art military hardware like the M9 "Gernsback". But as they stated through the first series of FMP, RK-92 was as normal to be in hands of terrorist groups like the AK-47.
Such thing as making mechs unrare gave me the impression that the technology of AS isn't far more superiour then the design of a main battle tank in modern time. Such little creator plot (completely worthless piece of information by others) but to me it made a major diffrence and made me to love the FMP universe even more ^^.
(Wonder if there exist a battletank anime somewhere... I must check it out).

For all who care (and a few who don’t)…
Thanks in part to your assistance, I did eventually find the full pic; Turns out it was one of two composite pics used at the ¡Full Metal Panic! Homepage. As a (small and very rare) gesture of thanks, I am presenting the complete pic for everyone. (The confusion partly started because I thought SHE was holding the gun. Well, that’s life.)

If you’re curios (I’m sure everyone’s waiting with baited breath), he appears to be packing a Glock 26 or 27.(I know. Absolutely critical info, couldn’t live without it for a whole thousandth’s of a second, but I figured what the Hell, they can’t ban me for saying it.)

It is indeed a Glock 26 Sagara use as his standard backup weapon or main weapon in operations. However in the manga version Sagara use a Glock 19 instead.
About Kurz's and Mao's weapon of choice, it's a FN BD A9 and a H&K P8 respectively.
(Yes I know, useless information but I can't help myself when FMP is the main topic here) ^^;

Take a good look at Kurz's Sniper rifle on the other hand and ypi will realize two things, one, just how good of taste Kurz has in Sniper rifles, and Just how much Mithril pays people

This is the rifle he uses

The Walther WA 2000

The Walther WA 2000 bullpup sniper rifle was designed by the Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen company from the ground up as a specialised police sniper rifle as opposed to being an adaptation from an existing rifle.

The bullpup design was chosen, because it would allow a standard length (for a sniper rifle) barrel to be used whilst the overall length would be shorter than a conventional rifle.

The .300 Winchester Magnum round was chosen as the primary caliber because of its long range accuracy and its consistency at all ranges. The entire rifle is designed around the barrel. The WA 2000 fires from a closed bolt and uses a bolt with 7 locking lugs. The rifles features a 6 round magazine capacity.

Variants
Only 176 total rifles were ever produced in three different variants, one chambered for the standard .300 Winchester Magnum round, another chambered for the popular 7.62 x 51 mm NATO round, and the final version for the 7.5mm Swiss round.

The two variants can be differentiated by the type of flash suppressor used: the first, the older model, uses a "can" type flash suppressor; whereas the second and newer model uses the more conventional "flash-hider/compensator" design.

Production
The rifle was produced from the late 70s though November 1988 when production was ceased due to high production costs. The final retail cost for a base rifle in 1988 was in the range of $9,000 to $12,500.

176 units were produced with only 15 units of the WA 2000 exported to the U.S., 11 of which are owned by Earl J. Sheehan Jr., President of Walther U.S. and due to its rarity it can be worth over $75,000 to $80,000 in the open market.

Excerpted from Wikpeadia, the additional link below tells about this rare rifle's use in Popular culture and yes Full Metal panic as well as two other Anime and one manga are mentioned

My my, can't disagree with you on that one, Cid. Never thought this rifle was an rarity in the world after have seen it a couple of times. Kurz sure got a good reason picking this one allright.

I think it is, a nicely balanced mix between Slapstick humor, Mecha Action, drama, and Intrigue...

I never thought they could do that all in one series, but these guys make it work

What suprise me is that they managed to get the mix of school, military and mecha into same anime and spice it with a mixture of seriousness and humor.
So Mustang, Yepp. It's all S+ if you ask me. And Oh! If you ever get the chance to see a copy of Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid. Buy it. For Gods weird sake buy it!

Don't forget to get 'Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu' as well. While Full Metal Panic is a mix of comedy and action 'Fumoffu' concentrates on comedy while 'The Second Raid' concentrates on the action/drama (though there are a few comedic moments).
