Licensing Issues

Postby InfernosCaress » Thu Oct 05, 2017 5:19 am

US courts upheld a ruling in the legal case between Harmony Gold and Tatsunoko that (among other things that we don't care about) Harmony Gold will lose its licensing rights to 'Macross', 'Southern Cross', and 'Mospeada' in March 2021.

The possibility of a Robotech movie? Cool.

If they do it, I hope it gets done right.

Yes, the last thing the world needs is another Battlefield Earth.

If they do it, it'll have to use all new designs and have a different enough story from the original anime if they intended to sell home video with being on the receiving end of those lawsuits that they love so much. It will be their version of the 'Transformers' films.

And now I am sad. There is a huge possibility this will be just as bad as Dragonall Evolution.

It takes a lot of skill and effort to reach that point.

Horrible Anime Live Action Adaptions
Dragonball
Death Note
Guyver

Good Adaptions
Rurouni Kenshin Trilogy of Movies
Gantz

Haven't Seen
Full Metal Alchemist (released this Christmas)
Starblazers

I am on the fence about Ghost In The Shell. Love the manga. Love the anime. Love ScarJo. Thought the movie was beautiful. Wanted Rinko Kikuchi as Major Kusanagi. So... I am torn.

You haven't seen the live-action Starblazers/Yamato movie? You should. It is one of the better single-movie adaptions, in my opinion.

Add the live action Initial D movie to the horrible list.

Aye the Yamato's movie is actually pretty good. Really enjoyed it too.

I also heard the lot of good things about the TerraFormars movie as well. Will need to check it out since it's supposed to come out in Europe pretty soon.

For the terrible anime movie collection, might I suggest 'Stealth'?

How anyone could watch that and not see how much of a Macross Plus rip of it is still scares me to this day. The film isn't bad, its just not good.

They also lost to the makers of Mechwarrior Online this past summer and all of the Battletech IP.
