Could use some help with my Fan Fic

Postby Ender » Sat Jan 31, 2009 11:05 am

Okay, Mr F gave me a great idea for a Fan Fic about a squadron on a pioneer world on the outer fringes of known space. The struggles they go through trying to protect their colony from pirates and other hostiles with almost no resources at their disposal.

My problem is what fighter should they use. I've narrowed it down to three choices:

1.VF-1X
2.VF-11B
3.VF-5000

What do you all think?

If they're that hard on their luck, why not use all three types? Beggars can't be choosers, so I'd imagine they would take what they could get when they could get it -- so long as it flew.

In my opinion I would use the VF-11. Out of the choices it is my favorite.

With almost no resources, I would say that I would use a ragtag bunching of all three fighters.

I agree, using all 3 fighters would be good if there no resources to allow you to be picky :)

I like the VF-1X but I like the VF-5000 more. It can hold more armument. Better to have the room for armument and not need it then need the room for more armument and not have it.
Don't hunt for death, for it finds us all soon enough.

Indeed, anything they get their hands on is usable. Though I wonder if not parts for their rather antique and rare fighter such as the VF-1X would be harder to find, since Macross 7 made a rather valid proof UN pilots can't fly VF-11 for shit and probably would make it more reasonable for these stranded pilots to find their parts easier for the cheaply mass produced VF-11.

:o Wow I really didn't expect this much response soo soon. Thanks

Everyone makes a good point and the more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the squadron using all three fighters (some others too, like the VA/VF-14).

I'm also thinking about some mixing and matching in weapons. If there's not enough Gunpods the 11's use, giving them gunpods like a 1X or 5000 would use. Part malfunctions, missle shortages, and weapon malfunction (nonlethal... most of the time  ) would be just some of the problems faced by this group.

Cobra: Having watched just about all the Macross's I can say with certainty that Spacy pilots can't fly worth crap no matter what you give them. How many scenes in the original Macross did you see three or more "Brownies" blown out of the sky? Spacy really needs to revamp their training.

Sabre: I would love to run this as a game. After reading your post it gave me some great ideas, but sadly I have nowhere to run it. I would try to submit it as a game idea here but I don't know how and I think everyone is a bit busy right now.

If anyone knows of a web service that is cheap and easy to use and/or would like to help me with this please let me know. My email is [email protected] or PM me.

If I can't get it into a game I'll still work on it as a Fan Fic and will let you all know when it gets put up.

Also anymore suggestions would be appreciated. :D

That's true, the "Brownies" from Robotech and the original Macross series were brought down by the Zentradi forces fairly easy. Although, in compare to the pilots of the 2050th century, the pilots of the 2000th century did atleast brought some enemies with em to their grave. ;)

Good point. Just supports my theory that Spacy needs to revamp their training. Remember it's not the machine but the man in the machine.

I've thought of naming my squadron "Cerebus." I thought it appropriate considering they'll be made up of the remnants of three other squadrons. It also goes with the greek mythological monster theme I have planned out.

Anyone think that's corny or just plain bad? Any ideas?

"Cerebus" works I think. He was the watchdog to hell and they are the defenders of a frontier colony, you dont get much worse than that :P

I like the idea of 3 units rolled into one but what happened to the other 2/3's? To loss 2/3's of ones military force would classify as a rather large balls up on someones card somewhere you know, was there a commander who made a bad call or just bad luck etc.

Either way you fly it it does sound interesting, best of luck with it.

I'm thinking attrition. I believe that not every colony fleet is as large or well equipped as the Mac 7 or Frontier fleets. Infact I don't even want a Macross type ship of any kind in my story. Some Guantanamo's and Northhamptons... nothing too powerfull. Might make an exception for a Thuverl Salan, but only because it's one of my favs.

I'm thinking this might be one of the privately funded colonization efforts that Spacy sent some troops along to keep an eye on... and eventually stake a claim to if anything of interest turned up. Otherwise they're on their own. Spacy basically forgets them.

Any of this believeable?

Wasn't that what Galaxy was? Granted, they had mega-corporations funding them.

I do believe so (not sure though.. I've 8 more episodes to watch).

This colony fleet is much smaller with a much smaller escrort group. I'm thinking anti-Zentradi bigots who want to get as far away from the giants as possible. Should be fun writing about the tensiom with the colonists and the Zentradi who serve in the Spacy escort unit.

Also I need to correct myself, it's not Northamptons it's Bolognes frigates.

Have the prologue and first chapter already planned out, now I just need put them down... or up I guess.

Interesting. What timeframe / generation will your story be based?

Right now, it's set in 2052 on the Planet Scylla in the Charydis system (still working on more Planetary and System details).

The prologue is actually up on FanFiction.net.

I really don't like it though and wonder what I was thinking putting it up it that state.

Anyway you can go here to read it: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4840236/1/

I should have the First chapter up soon.

Note to all, the above URL no longer works. I decided to trash my prologue and revamp my story in general.

I'll let you all know when the first chapter is up, which should be soon.
