Movie

.
As a surprise to no one, the new film "Absolute Live!!!!!!" has been pushed back to next year. New poster, though:

It says "Sing To Live" or maybe "Songs Are Life." Still don't know much about the movie's plot other than a new threat emerges during the Var Syndrome pandemic, because apparently they still not finished cleaning up Frontier's mess.

Frontier is pretty good, both series and movie. Movie seems to be the more Canon route as it is carried over in to Macross 30, which in turn carries over to Delta.

Do yourself a favor and don't binge Delta. The movie, the movie is fine. The series is not. Like the writers said in the letter that they released, they were hired to plot out and write a dozen episodes and halfway through episode four they were told that it was now twenty-six and maybe some movie follow-ups. So they had to take the story that was planned out for the next eight or so episodes and stretch it out over twenty-two instead. The result is that there are more filler episodes than plot ones, and stretches of three or four episodes in a row where you don't even see a valkyrie outside of the credits. Its ending is also left open-ish for the potential film. When they actually made the first movie, they didn't do it as a follow-up and instead just re-did Delta from the beginning.

On the flipside, if you can get a hold of the Mini-Delta Theater "Paper-Doll" style bonus stuff that they put out in the blu-rays, they are definitely worth watching. They have amusing skits that are general better than the actual show. Plus, in I think pretty much each one, they'll give you info on tech that you would not normally get to hear about. For example, there are some on what non-pilot ground pounders wear: "Black WD-120 Under Suit" which is a transparent "Bio-Silk Aramid" skin-tight outfit that is laser and small caliber bulletproof, as well as having infiltration aiding abilities like altering its shape for camouflage or to appear as different race (creating artificial tails and stuff). It helps that the tech stuff is all officially labeled in English too so that you don't have to puzzle out a translation.

I wrote down the tech bits for Sketchley from the blu-rays that I had access to if you want a copy of that information.

I would agree, Frontier was an excellent series and highly enjoyable. Delta felt like it was being dragged out and from your comments that explains why.

Yeah. When the writers feel that they have to make a public explanation, there is something going wrong. I read the letter when it was released back in the day. I could try to find it again, but it is obviously in Japanese.

Glad I'm not the only one having a hard time with Delta. I'll have to check out the movie.

The movie is much better. It does feel a bit rushed, as they tried to keep in a lot of the parts that they felt were worth while from the series. They even ported over pretty much the entire story of the two former members of Walkure despite them appearing in only a single episode.

Shameless thead necro here.

Macross Frontier, what is the actual canon series of events? The series, movie 1 or movie 2? Cause that shit is confusing AF.

Also, I would love to see a macross series that did not portray the Spacy at total morons. If you watch 7 or Frontier you would think that Spacy ships are built from refined dynamite and that the background pilots are flying with blindfolds on.

The carryover order goes:

Frontier Movie 1 > Movie 2 > Macross 30 video game (which has the recovered Sheryl trying to protect the few remaining Vajra left in the galaxy from being hunted to extinction. She is traveling with Alto, who is either her fiance or her husband, she is not really clear beyond the possessiveness).

FB7 is in there, but it was rather nebulous as to when.

The novels fall in there somewhere, too. The main character of "The Ride" series, Chelsea Scarlett, is the current NUNS Senator for Frontier's planet (the one that they stole from the Vajra) according to the Delta novels.

Incidentally, she was also in M7. She was one of the kids from the Megaroad-13 that were sealed inside of that Spiritia Dome that the Protodeviln had. The constant draining and refilling process tainted her Spiritia. That is a whole plot point thing.

Following M30 are portions of Macross E. Of note is that the main character, Pirika, once broke her femur when her dad was trying to breed her with a Vajra:

The ships were always crappy. They always blew up in one clean hit, even back in SDF M.

Most of the good pilots and commanders left as the military became filled corrupt officers. They joined SMS and, following the return of the Megaroad-01, switched over to their group (Xaos).

Thanks for the summary.

I get why the Spacy is always used as canon fodder, it makes the main characters look awesome, but I think a series were they msin characters where just tour average joes vs pirates or anti UN folk would be cool.

Also, what the hell is the deal with Delta and the sudden appearance of human'ish races? As of Frontier there was at most Zolans, the suddenly we have cats, merman and whatever the fuck windamire is about, glowing hair charms.

It is one of the few things that I can contribute.

I am not sure that a series full of Kakizakis would last long. They would deploy and they would not be returning

And Zentraedi Don't forget them.

There are a lot of races because that star cluster, which someone outside the galaxy, was the last stand of the Protoculture during the Protodeviln war. While they were dying out, they sent seed ships to infuse their genetic material with the native lifeforms on other planets to spark an evolutionary uplift. Humans came from a monkey fusion, Zolans from the marsupials, Ragnans from the oceanic world, Voldorians from forest cats. In the end, the Protoculture focused on the planets that were closest to their last world. That is why their are more races present over there.

Windermereans are a bit different. They are Protoculture/Vajra hybrids. Their Rune head charms are Fold Quartz, the part of the Vajra biology that allows for their near-instant pangalactic hive mind. They get massively boosted stats like the Vajra's Borg Adaption power in exchange for a thirty year lifespan. A few rare born ones are Wind Singers, like Heinz and Freyja, and can use the Rune more actively, but it cuts their remaining lifetime in half.

The idea was to have the Starsinger priestesses and any Anima Spiritia present project their ability through the Windermereans in order to strike down the Protodeviln. Apparently, the Windermereans did not evolve quickly enough, so the last Starsinger used the Protoculture antenna-like towers nestled on each of the planets to essentially seal off that star cluster. It prevented the Protodeviln from being able to enter, but the Protoculture were already too few in number to survive.

It is also worth noting that Windermereans are immune to the Var Syndrome because that is the V-Type Virus from Frontier. When the Vajra left the galaxy thanks to the Macross 25 attacking their homeworld, the smallest ones, little microscopic guys, don't know how to properly Fold like the big ones do. They can only make comparatively tiny hops. Some of them ended up getting caught inside of other people when defolding, accidentally infecting them. Since Windermereans are already Vajra hybrids, the little Vajra don't bother them.
